This school was originally Congleton St Stephen's C E Infant School. It opened in Spragg Street in 1849 in premises purchased from the nonconformists. The school later transferred to New Street and in 1969 was renamed Daven County Infant School. Infant classes were held alongside the girls' secondary school classes at New Street from 1927
